As with many cases of “ travellers’ diarrhoea “ the precise source of the infection may never be known. Indeed with the milder forms affecting up to 3/5 travellers, it’s simply the change of diet and “ bugs “ causing self-limited symptoms.
I’m sure you have already looked up Salmonella and blastocystis on the internet. It’s reassuring that your doctor and the microbiologist / laboratory staff were able to make the diagnosis
. No doubt your treatment includes antibiotics – not effective ( for prevention or treatment ) UNLESS the food / water poisoning is severe, and a non-viral cause is identified, as in your case.
