Arrow Three arrested following raid in West London

    24 July 2013

Three immigration offenders from Pakistan have been arrested following our raid on a shop in Feltham.

Acting on intelligence, our officers visited Shop n Save, Staines Road, on Monday 22 July where workers were questioned to check if they had the right to be in the UK.

Our officers arrested 2 men, aged 24 and 60, who were both found to have overstayed their visas. The 60-year-old tried to escape when officers approached the shop but was stopped following a short foot pursuit.

The business was served a notice warning that a fine of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker will be imposed unless proof is provided that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out. This is a potential fine of up to £20,000.

During a later search for a travel document at the 60-year-old's address on Bedfont Lane, Feltham, officers also arrested another 24-year-old man found to have overstayed his visa.

The men were transferred to immigration detention pending their removal from the UK.

Sarah Burton, head of the Immigration Enforcement team in West London, Home Office said:

'Our enforcement teams carry out operations like this almost every day in West London and we have no intention of slowing down.

'These arrests are a stark warning to anyone who is in the UK illegally. We will catch up with and you will face arrest, detention and removal from the country.

'If you are a business you must carry out the correct checks on your staff or you could end up with a heavy fine.'

Measures to toughen fines against rogue businesses employing illegal migrants, while cutting red tape for legitimate employers, have been unveiled by the Government.

Employers unsure of the steps they need to take to avoid employing illegal workers can visit our Preventing illegal working pages, or they can call the agency's employers helpline on 0300 123 4699.

Anyone with information about immigration offenders can report crime on this website, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
