No difference Steve. Either General Visit or Family Visit.
Eligibility for Family Visit is that the family member the applicant is visiting must be Settled in UK (ILR) or British citizen.

That's if you have the additional funds required to support the applicant. When I applied for mother in law the application wasn't too dissimilar to the questions asked in the spouse visa. Requirements just the same..only difference being was cost.
