I had no noise issues when i was living at Mayfield Park Pasig
These places were not so cheap to rent and dogs were not allowed
Maybe due to the cost of living there it attracted a better class of person
Living in a busy barangy would be a non starter for me and i applaud you for even trying it

Have you thought about splitting your time here and there even if your lady can't get a visa?
I know a couple of members here do just that. Seems to work for them

When I was there we too stayed and lived ghetto stylie be it only for a couple of weeks...the noise and smells was terrible not to mention the roaches and suchlike crawling over you just as you nodded off to sleep. ..Thank goodness it was only temporary We were grateful for the help to get us through a batch of financial embarrassment, as you do

Many nice gated sub divisions nearby, they came at a price though.

Love - hate relationship with the Philippines Over the past 25 years i have met a lot of expats who feel exactly the same way. That's why they keep coming back after swearing that they have had a enough of the place!
If anything i would say older people have a harder time adapting to the Philippines as they are more set in their ways. Most of the younger ones tend to leave because they run out of money. They usually come back again for another try at some point in their life

You can work in the Philippines if you have your own business or should i say the wife's business.

Sure there are some frustrations but i always choose to see the funny side

well i,m in what you could call a middle class sub divison but you,re never gonna change what you see here so you just got to go with the flow until it gets too much .I lived in lapu lapu city for 2 years with much the same issues i,m not rich so renting in the higher end sub divisions are out for me .btw many laws here are ignored regarding home ownership people do what they want most of the time being neighbourly is not high on their agenda in my opinion.

I've had noisy neighbours in the past here in the UK which drove me into buying a detached house. I live in a village and there is even a local rooster nearby but thankfully double glazed windows keep most of its noise at bay. I used to stay with my brother in Paranaque and Alabang, nice areas but there were still noisy roosters there too and despite being there for only a few weeks at a time, I found the very early wake up call hard to tolerate every morning . ......... pesky birds!

You have my sympathy Tiger 31, I hope that you make it back to the UK before long for a better night's sleep

As Mick pointed out, noisy neighbours are everywhere not just the Philippines but it could be worse I suppose. You could live near a busy intersection with trikes/bikes going past all the time.

Stayed in a hotel in AC last year with the non stop noise of traffic through the night and this was not in the centre of town. Then an adjacent property began blasting out Tom Jones songs at 7am.

Do what Lordna suggested and get some earplugs Tiger and see if that helps.

It was something I was going to do a while back. .take on a mortgage over there. .buying a nice house for immediate family. .I was going to spend 3 months of the year in Philippines splitting it thrice over the year. ..I worked out we would get more quality time as a family than if we stayed here in UK. I'd then be able to retire at 65 and have a big lovely house all bought and paid for over there in Manila. .Jerusalem street near to the airport.
It's not an obligation to live in the gutter. When you first hook up with a new chick you cld live anywhere. .lunch on chickens intestines and delicious chickens feet morning day and night. .that novelty wears thin after a while, I can tell you.
The inactivity got to me. .I enjoy my work i can't ever imagine not working. .yes you can work in the Philippines. .not quite the same as working here for a solid wage each month.
Still, horses for courses. ..my line of work is still in demand here so I'm only giving my perspective.
    It's just a thought

We do see things differently as i see Filipino's as neighbourly.
Yes i agree with your comments about noise. That is part of the culture and other neighbours don't have a problem with it so what gives us the right to say what is right or wrong.

I often read on the forum comments about Paki's and other nationalities not integrating into British society. Ask a filipino the same question about foreigners who live here. They will tell you that the vast majority of them are rude, snobbish, isolated and never really try to integrate. Sounds familiar!

Yes you have got the umberella of the NHS here at the moment. For how long I wouldnt like to guess. Jake you have more experience of what the filipinos say obviously but like I said earlier a smile and Hi dont cost anything thats probably why I havnt had a problem yet. And it is true some nationalities do not intergrate here and they dont intend to.

    Thanks Andy
The NHS is a great thing and any country that has such a service should consider themselves very fortunate.
As you said a smile and a hi goes a long way in any culture.

Not quite a fair comparison Jake. .the majority of the foreigners are making valued contributions to the Philippines economy. .unlike the leeching parasites here.
Nothing unreasonable about having a moan about loud music.
We too had to endure such behaviour which according to my wife was accepted as normal. We had a jeepney parked by our bedroom window. .Every day we'd be awoken with the room being filled with black exhaust fumes. Again, that was accepted because the jeepney owner always parked there. .nobody complained.
I want my life how I want it. .not a test of endurance.
Like the foreigners wanting to come here for the money for doing sod all and for us wanting a better life on the cheap.

Only experience will tell you what's what. You can't base the rest of your days on the back of having 2 or 3 holidays there 2 weeks at a time.
We don't know the whole story of other folks. .the reasons behind leaving UK at a productive age.
I'm basing my comments on spending 18 months there over a 6 year period.

thats because the PH attracts a lot of dregs in society sexpats etc I would,nt integrate with them either if I was a Filipino .right now a dog is barking its head off the same one that goes at it all night now if a Filipino in england had the same problem it would be dealt with thats the difference jake here people just tolerate all kinds of crap because it aint in their nature .and the ones that do complain will probably bring out a gun here its very common .thats another reason why ive been told to keep quiet because they would,nt think twice of shooting you dead .you can kill anyone that comes onto your property here if they feel threatened .anyway people deal with culture changes better than others I guess all i,m saying is i,m not sure I could retire in this place where i,m at maybe another location by the sea might do it

I agree they do make a financial contributions to the economy. Immigrants to the UK also make a contribution to the economy with their expertise in certain subjects. You do get leeching parasites in the UK because the system allows this to happen. We also get foreign "leching" parasites who think that throwing money around makes them the bees knees!

My life is not a test of endurance. Every day i wake up with a smile and look forward to the days events here in the Philippines,

    Different folks, different strokes.

I always believed that life is what you make of it.
    We all have choices. Period.
My choice is to enjoy a life in Philippines. It suits me, I like it. I don't feel threatened.
