It's always amazed me just how many new species are found in the Philippines. I wonder why that is?

It's always amazed me just how many new species are found in the Philippines. I wonder why that is?

They have probably been trying avoid humans whenever possible
A lot of species are undocumented even though the local population know they exist.

We live at the foot of MT Banahaw which as far a i know has never been climbed from the Laguna side due to the thick vegetation. Everyday i see all sorts of weird and wonderful species.
