Pleased to see that he's in a strong union in the event that common sense doesn't prevail.

If a train had come in and killed 4 helpers than you would have been reading different headlines
People have been killed in similar incidents to this
A short telephone call to the local signaler is all that is needed
Only dummies dive straight down on the track without getting the trains stopped first
This member of staff should have know better and should be conversant with the railway rules

Bang goes his promotion prospects !

There are of course safety procedures in place to stop trains in situations like this. LM is right we could have been reading a far worse headline because safety procedures were not followed.
The penalty for members of staff breaching safety procedures and endangering life can be severe and in most cases result in loss of job.
That said this is a little different in that they were ( in their mind) attempting to save life. A warning with a bit of re training would be more appropriate in this case.

Common sense has prevailed and he's been re-instated. No doubt the halfwitted Jobsworth who suspended him will be getting a pat on the back and a bonus.
