Used to buy a 50kg sack of Panda rice for P1700 in Tagbilaran.
We now buy 1kg packets of perfectly acceptable long grain rice in Tescos for £0.40 =P28 or P1500 equivalent.
Nevermind the shipping, additional packaging and profit.

I think the last sack we bought was just under 2k.. (50 kg) That was by no means the best rice in the market.
The really cheap NFA broken reject crap is around P 1.450 a sack..
Prices went up about a month ago on average 5 Peso a kilo.
We buy our rice in 10kg bags from Costco or Hoo Hing.
Thai Jasmine rice AAA quality (unbroken) £10 per bag
Good point.
There are a number of reasons why rice costs around the same in the Philippines as the UK. The number one reason is the Philippines imports a large percentage of the rice consumed. Sounds crazy but we are the number one importer of rice in the world!
Price fixing is another reason
