The Face Covering (Prohibition) Bill will get its second reading in Parliament today, and if passed into law the bill would would make wearing burqas in public illegal.

Just ban it and the male taliban clothing they look stupid. They look as though they should be in the desert and not walking our streets.

I wouldn't get too excited. Although I agree with it, I cannot honestly see this being voted through in both the Commons and the Lords.

    Not going to happen.

No further comment due to lack of free speech in this country and likelihood of being called racist, bigot etc.

Personally speaking i think people living in this country should have the right to wear exactly what they like. Its totally irrelevant that the Burka has religious significance to the wearer. They should of course have to reveal their face to a police officer, should identification be required.

If wearing of the Burka is banned then you also need to stop people wearing hoodies and maybe stop scotsmen wearing kilts just in case they expose themselves in public. Its not going to happen, a ridiculous waste of time and money debating it

These people should not be allowed to have their faces covered in public places - terrorists and murderers have managed to flee the country by virue of having their faces concealed and by virtue of the long robed garb appeared to be veiled up females. Ban it

Why on earth not? you have the right to cover your face in public for example when an icy wind might be blowing. Its no different...anybody should have the right to wear what they want. Your argument about veiled up people fleeing the country...well maybe a point BUT i have said these people SHOULD be made to show their face for identification purposes ...thats all!

i'm sure some shopping centers banned hoodies

what you wear in your own home should be up to you, but in court it should not be allowed and in jobs where face to face contact is important like teachers etc

Well ... ... if Scots who wore their National Dress exposed themselves, they'd very soon be arrested.

To protect myself against severe weather I might partially cover my face but I'd cerainly not be peering through a half inch slit draped in robes down to my ankles as these religious extremists and fugitives from justice do. For national security and public protection people need to be visible to CCTV cameras. Furthermore it is totally against our British culture and it is a symbol of refusing to integrate.

20 years ago the only veiled up beings you saw were the Saudi princesses arriving at Heathrow and they soon ripped them off before they hit the west end shops. Now it is all over the place as a symbol of extemism

Don't forget to ban people wearing crash helmets in public as well then!

THIS is the United Kingdom in the 21st century, not some backward ****house country from the dark ages.

Don't want to conform to OUR standards of acceptable behaviour, go back to where you came from. You certainly wouldn't give ME the freedom to follow my 'customs' in YOUR society !

Where are the womens' libbers when you need them ?

I suppose when a scotsman is asked if anything is worn under the kilt, they would say No, its all in perfect working order!

You know perfectly well that people are normally asked (with notices to that effect) to remove crash helmets when entering many premises, but thanks for mentioning it, because the principle is much the same.

I'd liken the wearing of the Burka to a sign of subservience more so than to any religious significance. I have no problem if they wish to cover their hair but to cover the whole face to me is a sign of imprisonment, a sign of non integration verging on a sign of hostility to our country.
Our politicians have operated a policy of cowardly appeasement for years for fear of being labelled as racist.
This is 21st century Britain not stone age Saudi Arabia and I honestly feel that now is the time to ban it and set the prisoners free.
At the same time perhaps we could make it compulsory for young Muslim girls to take part in singing lessons in school

    Quite agree Marco.

To permit separate societies with their own rules and laws within our country is simply intolerable.

Are you saying it's OK despite the majority of our population finding it insulting, threatening and hostile ?

The difference is that if I walk into a bank wearing my crash helmet I would be asked to remove it but if a muslim walked in wearing a burqa... mmm now think about it...

Thats a old argument but a true statement. A bit like the sikh not wearing a crash helmet when riding a motorcycle.
