This sounds like a right rip-off

Just been speaking to an Aussie.

He goes to the Phils regularly and pays the equivalent of 34,000 PHP in AUS dollars for a return journey which is well over £500 if I'm not mistaken. This kind of price is from both Sydney & Melbourne with the cheapest airline.

    Distances

London to Manila approx 6600 miles
Sydney to Manila approx 3800 miles

After doing the maths I'm baffled.

When my grandad died last month, my aunt and uncle who live and work in Kuwait paid for the cheapest ticket they can get, which is Emirates at £500+ for each! Same price coming from the UK!

i don't know if the cost the airline gets has increased over the years (cheapest i can remember getting was about £380 return using KLM or Airfrance 8-10yrs ago) , much of the cost now is taxes, surcharges and extra fees

Quite right....greedy Treasury penalising us travellers to make up the shortfall from the tax-dodging corporates and the rich .

KLM price that I paid in 2010 was slightly less than £380 and that was the cheapest I ever had since 1989!
