I used to find it tiresome listening to some people gripe for years about their employers for one reason or another, always threatening to leave..(miserable .....) I knew damned well they would be there for the rest of their lives...being miserable!!

Which reminds me.. I accepted a job offer once to build and scenic paint TV sets for a BEEB contractor..
I was on the job two days when the union rep called us to a meeting for a wage increase..
When asked for a show of hands I was the only one with my hand down..
Later when asked why,I told them that I had just signed a contract agreeing to terms and pay..
Only two days on the job and they were calling me a scab!!
Only in the U.K!!

Talking about pay rises Joe, all my working life never had a pay rise in 50 years, I had to move to a different company every five years for my pay increase, never known a company that gave annual wage increases! [/QUOT must agree with you on this Michael

I must admit I never ever complained about my work because I loved the road haulage industry and was really happy in my work. When I was driving I always seemed to get a new truck every August 1st, other drivers who had worked with me never understood why even though they had worked for many years longer than me within the same company, but I knew why!

Actually my personal position is quite good and i am happy with my pay rates and working conditions
I do spare a thought for other people though and i feel sorry for many other workers in this country

I have no idea what their employment contract terms were.. Definitely none of my business.

Yes Steve..I observed the same just about everywhere I have been employed in the past...
As long as the old flaky paint on the wall is reasonably happy ...Let it be!
I just wish it wouldn't moan and groan in the tea room quite so often.

every year has been the same for as long as i can remember, yes the dark days when the question was, can we have a pay rise, the answer , you have a job think yourself lucky and indeed we was lucky to be in work,
The last few years we have had a percentage rise, and once the ones who has money worked it out , thats a bloody wast of time its worked out at so and so, well my thoughts was thats a little extra to go away, we all have to cut your cloth accordinglyto what we have and what we can get for that amount, good luck to anyone earning more then me and those who dont , well get another job or spend it wise

Above inflation pay rise every year and already guaranteed 0.5% above inflation for next April. All negotiated by the terrible left wing trade union.

I'm praising the Union at my site. Our location has helped our cause otherwise we could of gone the way of 3 of our other sites. For the first time in 8 years our site are taking on new drivers be it on the new terms and conditions ie; 40% less take home money than us!!...there's no shortage of takers, mainly poles from the agency...our terms and conditions, thanks to our Union, can't be touched..we are the dying breed!!...when we leave, replacements will either be agency or new employees.

The maximum they could earn is 29k whereas as I can earn 51k doing the same hours

Ah yes, Simon. Tbh, though ... I've never been used to much money. ... my late, first wife suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis (NOT Arthuritis, I'd hasten to add!) throughout our 24-year marriage, and was strongly~advised by her doctors that running a household - combined with caring for a husband and two kids - was a BIG enough responsibility ... without taking on the extra physical demands of an "outside" job.

So, for me, at least, it's simply a case of "what you never have you never miss"!

That's a bit dodgy Mark. The Poles could go on strike when they realise that your're on 22k more a year than them for the same job.
Or the flip side is that the bosses might think hang on a minute we can have 5 poles for 3 Mark's let's get rid of all the Marks.
Much better that everyone is earning the same for the same job.
