I noticed that as well Ded on Tuesday. .I wanted to look at somebody's history but, like you was limited to 2010.

I think before, you could go all the way back to their first post.

Gwap no I meant the inept Labour party - if I try to quote the last Govts multitude of failures ie pre May 2010 Andy calls it past history but its OK for him and his cohorts to blame Maggie Thatcher 's and earlier Tory Govts for anything and everything

    Very true.

People also forget the terrible state this country was in when Maggie was brought in to sort it out.

25% inflation and people like rail workers demanding 35% pay rises.

I do disagree with the sale of council houses though, but no doubt they'd only be filled with asylum-seekers etc now, even if we still had them.

Oh! Sorry Ded. .story of my life, a stream of misunderstandings..

I did try to look back at one member's past but was limited to how far.

I know what you mean though .It's okay to look back at Conservative but not Labour's history

it's okay, I've been taking lessons from Moy

I think at the time Graham you were a homeowner ...you'd already scrimped and saved for a deposit etc so I know how you feel. ..I would too!

I think most would of taken up the option to buy their council house if they were able to.

If the Government had ploughed the money straight back into new housing stock then it might of been different.

I remember when I bought ours, I did ask this question. ..what's happening to the money. ...We were definitely told it was being invested into creating more homes. ..such as human nature, I still would of bought it even if the proceeds were being spent on wine women and song

Well ... ... for what it's worth to you folks domiciled "south of the Border - down Yorkshire, Berkshire or Wiltshire way" (or where the heck ever) - the Scottish [SNP ~controlled] Government is all set to reverse the 1980s, Thatcherite 'Right to Buy'scheme up here in Bonnie Scotland.

    HOW ED DEFENDED HIGHER BILLS

Ed Miliband was the architect of the green taxes blamed for pushing up energy bills.
The Labour leader was in charge of energy policy in Gordon Brown’s Labour government, and made tackling climate change his main priority.

Good to see you're looking outside the box, Ded.

Now you mention it, I seem to remember Labour saying all this.

Anyone can promise the earth when not in power. ..They all do it, to some extent. .but, this shower seem to have it off to a fine art

The energy efficiency schemes have been running all over the country since 2003 (some, like reduced price loft insulation since the late 70s).

I have been working on them throughout that time.

ALL homeowners and tenants have been given the opportunity to insulate their houses properly either with a non-means tested grant of 50% for loft insulation and 70% for cavity wall insulation, or completely free for those on most benefits....also free for EVERYONE in 'normal'-sized properties, for a few years up until recently. Councils and housing associations have insulated all of their housing stock too, as well as running their own local schemes on top of the national ones.

The main schemes have been funded by the energy companies.

New grants are now available for previously 'hard to treat' properties (such as those with solid walls or having narrow cavities). There is also a big scheme running at present for free boiler replacement.

Now over the years I've come across many people who still couldn't be bothered to insulate their homes properly...would rather spend the money on fags and booze, cars, etc, or just too idle to have a survey done and sign a couple of forms.

Since an average loft loses around 25% of the total heat loss from a house, and the walls 35%, then I would suggest that the best thing most people can do is to go and check that they've done everything possible to keep the heat IN their house, and to have the actual heating system running efficiently....before they start bloody moaning !
