    Shocking !

...that I've just felt obliged to put the central heating on, because I have guests who don't seem to be able to keep warm with six layers of clothes.

They don't happen to be young beautiful Filipina's do they Graham?

I can think of a way to get round that wee problem which doesn't involve cranking up the heating.

Nope....my son and his Finnish girlfriend.

Don't think he'd appreciate me making a pass at her.

Its not cool to come across as a tight git you know The heating is set to 19.5 in our house and it comes on whenever it needs to. It has certainly been on the past few mornings and evenings. I would much prefer to be comfortable and pay a few quid a day.

I pay around £100 a month for electricity and gas, so around £3.30 a day. This is split 70% gas, 30% electricity = £2.30 of gas a day on average (obviously more in winter, minimal in summer with water and cooker heating). Well worth it IMO.

My heating is broken should be fixed today if the bloke comes with the right part.
But to keep my wife and stepdaughter warm I make them chop the logs for the fire

I couldn't give a whether people think I'm cool or not, even though a lot of what I say is tongue in cheek and obviously meant in humour.

It's my money and I'll spend it wisely.

Probably why I don't owe anybody a penny, and everything I own is paid for.

Been there done that with all the flashy impress the friends and neighbours stuff.

It's 21C in my house, and we're all happy and comfy.

I didn't mention Michael. ..that was when my good lady was here. ...like in the Philippines, she didn't wear clothes in the house, no matter what time of year. ...still, that's all a distant memory now

Yes I know, I spoilt her rotten.

Btw. .I'm not moaning here :-). ..I didn't have a problem paying that amount or her walking about near naked :-). .although she did put a top on while frying...as long as she was happy, that's all what mattered :-)

Yup ... me too ... we currently pay £112 pcm by direct debit to 'Scottish Power'.

................................................... ... which I feel ought to be adjusted to make allowances for not using the gas central heating at all for the whole summer.

That does seem a lot Arthur. I paid just over £50 for my gas from mid May to mid August this year but that's for a flat. During the main winter months it was about £150.

    And the rest.

Valid point though. Wasn't aware Arthur had retired. Thought he was only about 53.

£160 per month NPower only been with them since I booted Scottish Power into touch in Feb. Looking at our readings / consumption paying ahead of the game I expect it to pan out at about £120 per month - fixed till Feb2015

I pay £40 for gas & £30 for electric per month and at the moment am £257 in credit, but having said that we only moved into this house beginning of April this year, I'm hoping the credit I've accumulated plus the £200 fuel allowance will suffice us through the winter, will keep you posted. I will point out we do wear appropriate clothing for indoor winter months and we have never felt cold indoors, also last winter I introduced Maritess to the famous Hot water bottle and to my surprise after about one week she never wanted it again.!

You may think the Philippines comparison isn't anything to do with this discussion but I think it is .....look at the endless brown outs lasting hours and sometimes days on end. ...and the extortionate charges. ...We had the same poor service in the 70s. ..I definitely wouldn't want to go back to those days ....folks forget those times. ..Some weren't born then but let me tell you. .It was a lot tougher then. ..you just didn't have the money to pay. ...nowadays folks just got to sacrifice a packet of fags to pay for that rise. .....as Ded already pointed out, Miliband was going to put the squeeze on us as well with his green policies ....so to say he would of capped the rises is a complete lie
