Luckily the quake started about 12 miles down, as it had dispersed a bit by the time it reached the surface (think ripples on a pond expanding).

Thanks for your update, Fred ... all of us here are MIGHTY relieved to learn that you and your family are safe and sound! Likewise, Brian [Tiger] and his missus.

At the same time, we grieve for those poor people worst affected by the tragic event.

Thanks for ALL your concern.. Its appreciated..I mean it..
Lots of people here have been reacting in different ways from any thing to panic in varying degrees to complaisance.. We had tilers working on our porch as we all ran out out of our house...5 mins later they were back tiling again.. Humans are weird!!
Still feeling tiny underground shakes as I type..
When I think of the complete disaster that happened in Haiti and years ago in Turkey,I find what has happened here in Bohol hard to compare..
Of course..Thats easy for me to say as my family are safe and well..
Many others have much to grieve about.. Lets reserve a moment of our thoughts for them.
    Thanks again!
    Cheers,
    Fred.

Good to read that you and yours are OK Fred, and - as you say - our thoughts are with those less fortunate people.

Glad to hear you're OK Fred and R.I.P to those who passed away.

Just read this was the first major earthquake to hit Bohol since 1700.

If you watch Phil news, the first thing the officials talk about are the churches... and then the dead! Wrong way round

According to the 'on location' news teams in Bohol it doesn't look like that much help is getting mobilised.
Those poor folks most in need of simple basic support seem to be getting the least help.

Talking of news teams ... I cannot, for the life of me, comprehend WHY a calamity of such magnitude received virtually NO coverage on British television.

Now is the time for Governments to put differences aside and help!!...we are all aware of the the blantant corruption going on there and the country's unwillingness to intergrate with the west but, nows not the time for that

How about relief from the skies..this is what normally happens when communities are cut off..Fred mentioned Turkey and Hati, their was no end of help for these 2 countries

I'm in no doubt that the Philippines has enough money to ensure shelter and food for those affected.
Certainly they put aside more than enough for these events, the problem seems to be locating it and delivering it

The main problem in bohol is that its very rural ,The road network is very poor ,although they are making headway they have a long way to go .The further inland you go the quicker the bumpy roads vanish and are unusable for cars only bikes.communications are also very poor ,The signals are mostly very weak at times ,but due to the influx of tourists things were starting to pick up plus the airport making the place a bit more accessible.
