, Steve ... Emma won't need to surrender her Philippine Passport when she applies for her British one. That's only necessary when she decides to apply for dual citizenship.

    Steve,
She will need to send it with her application in but they will return it intact.

Really ?? I don't think my Mrs sent hers. Just for Steves info all first time applicants are interviewed because of l the scumbags, terrorists and chancers putting in dodgy applications :-

The interview will take about 30 minutes.

You’ll be asked to confirm facts about yourself that someone trying to steal your identity may not know.

Her Majesty’s Passport Office destroys any personal information used in the interview shortly after the passport is issued.

My wife only recently received her passport and she had to send her current Filipino one with the application. Regarding the 30 minute interview, they were very thorough and even knew her work colleagues names and manager!! Still if it keeps out the cheats suppose it's worth it.

Yes they're quite crafty with those interview questions they obviously get info from other Govt departments, credit agencies etc. I think they also do random pull ins of people renewing their passports too. They should have been doing it years ago.
