Yep, one less company being put out of business by employees who've forgotten how they felt on their first day at work, and how fortunate they are to be still in that work.
Their Union leader must have been trained by Scargill.![]()
what if the employers are bluffing, surely you both think you should get a decent days pay for a days work![]()
They were probably both bluffing. That's life, and business.
The Unions blinked first and lost...fortunately for the workers and the taxpayers.
I have no idea how much the workers get paid. I also have no idea how hard they have to work for their money.
I do know that if I don't work I get paid-all, not that I'm complaining.
It won't be peanuts .............the firm was offering offering up to £15,000 of “sweeteners” to persuade staff to accept the revised T & C's - they ought to tell Commissar McCluskey that because his bruvvers refused to tighten their belts the money has since been spent elsewhere
Yes, we've all got to tighten our belts...except ?![]()
dedworth, 3 of those do important jobs,
i'd guess you haven't got kids or you teach them your self
what do you think a doctor should be paid, have you any idea how long it takes for someone to become a consultant ? tell me whats the max and minimum number of years it takes and the cost
and as for the police, risking their lives and dealing withall day, how much would you want to be paid before you did that job

Good evening Joe
I was a Primary School LEA Governor for 5 years, sons been through nursery, infant, junior & now at comprehensive so I'm not wet behind the ears about teachers and what a selfish peculiar breed many are. A good mate is a senior lab tech at a large comprehensive and he keeps me up to speed on the bizarre money wasting goings on.
Another friend and his wife are Doctors they are very comfortably off and unlike your man in Tameside (see Health Tourism thread) just get on with their jobs. I've never discussed money with them nor Health Politics .
There are a lot of excellent Police Officers but I also agree with Jack Straw who said a number prefered to sit around in a “warm police station” rather than going out on the streets to fight crime. I don't need to go into detail about the Back Office I'm Alright Jack three Police Federation representatives in the news this week over the plebgate thing
I'm jumping in here
Teachers have one of the cushiest jobs around,One of my friends is one and she admits it,good pay,12 weeks holiday etc,etc
moving on to the police-many are good cops but there are an ever growing number who can't be arsed-an ex police inspector told me he was glad to retire,I asked why he said the buggers don't want to get their hands dirty,I said what do you mean and he replied that often when call came in the cops would bicker about who's turn it was and 'I've just got myself a coffee now!'
Plus their morale is low-what's the piont in catching some low-life as the lefty judges won't convict them![]()
morning dedworth, well seeing you never talk to them , l'll give you an idea ..
5yrs at med school
2yrs foundation (fy1 ans fy2)
then the shortest path to getting on the specialist register is
GP 3yrs training
longest
surgery etc 7yrs of training
so the shortest time it takes to earn £67,000 is 10yrs of endless studying, exams and fee's -
the longest 14 long years, oh and it doesnt work out like that, your be lucky to find a ST post every year to carry on training
so the youngest someone could be a GP is 28, that takes a lot of sacrifice and commitment, like teachers its not just a 9 to 5 job![]()
Police salaries HAVE reduced this year and now start at a paltry £19k a year. Like Joe says, is this really a fair sum to be paid for the type of work they have to do? I think not. They also have to contribute 10% of their salary into their pension fund. Furthermore, the pay of many teachers has also been frozen.
We are ALL feeling the pinch, in one way or another.
You forgot Camerons number one buddies the W sorry Bankers.![]()
Thanks for reminding me Andy how could I forget the cash for honours scandal which immediately followed Labours 1997 pledge "We will clean up politics". Here's the "loans" that were made to Labour
Rod Aldridge - £1 million - former Executive Chairman of Capita
Richard Caring - £2 million - owner of The Ivy, London
Gordon Crawford - £500,000 - Chairman of London Bridge Software
Sir Christopher Evans - £1 million - Founder of Merlin Biosciences
Sir David Garrard - £2.3 million
Nigel Morris - £1 million - co-Founder of Capital One and Director of The Economist Group
Sir Gulam Noon - £250,000 - Chairman of Noon Products Ltd
Dr Chai Patel - £1.5 million
Andrew Rosenfeld - £1 million - Chairman of Minerva plc
David Sainsbury, Baron Sainsbury of Turville - £2 m - Government Minister
Barry Townsley - £1 million - Chairman of Insinger Townsley
Strange breed these Bankers and City Fat Cats no political allegiance they were once very close mates of Blair and Brown
It's a non money making petrochemical plant. ...just like the coal in the 70s. ..cheaper to bring in from outside the UK. ..Whereas this time, it's coming from productive sites in America. ..A quick search would tell you all you want to know and more why this site is a loser.
Merry Christmas one and all![]()
And Cameron is still backing them.. And another thing and I know it is off topic but you having a go at Labour and their mass immigration. Yet you are supporting a party that has been in power for 3 and a half years and who are refusing to come out of europe and at the same time letting your friends the Romanians and Bulgarians into this country. I dont know where your coming from on that one? Answer on a postcard?
![]()
I know I'm not supposed to quote history like you Andy (Thatcher, Slave Trade, General Strike etc) but :-
Tony Blair House of Commons 20 April 2004 told Parliament it should debate the European constitutional question "in detail and decide upon it" and "then let the people have the final say".
Labour Manifesto 2005 Blair promises: "We will put it [the constitution] to the British people in a referendum and campaign wholeheartedly for a Yes vote."
![]()
Is that the best you can do Ded.. So you would vote for a party who would let thousands of who you have been criticising into the country? Is that right?
Pot and kettle come to mind with you Andy - the current administration have been reducing and controlling immigration by using existing and implementing new legislation. They are also foolishly sticking to European treaties and commitments already made.
The years 1997 - 2010 will go down in history as a dark period where mass uncontrolled immigration (to secure future Labour votes) permanently changed this country for the worse and put the population at risk from foreign terrorists, extremists and criminals who Labour sheltered with its Human Rights Act.
Still not the answer Im looking for Ded. A yes or no will be surfice.
Oh i get it. Your waiting for a reply from your Theresa on a way to wriggle out of this one? Maybe you can email the Daily snail for advice?![]()
Unite's actions at Grangemouth have been disgraceful. I feel sorry for the non-unionised members of the workforce who have been dragged into this situation by the short-sighted militants at Unite.
First, they threaten a strike over the "treatment of a union official", then fail to back the rescue plan that would keep the facility open. They would love to have seen picket lines, queues at petrol stations and everything else, but they totally misjudged the situation.
Fortunately, they have lost this battle. Hopefully the Grangemouth employees will see sense and leave the union.
Its a private company i.e a dictatorship. The company should honour the pension agreement for those workers that they set up in the first place.
