Ok guys I have installed this software and find it a right pain in the ass. Very slow and half the time it wont recognise the phone. Is there any other way i can transfer pics and videos from my computor to my phone and visa versa?

Google drive might be worth a try Andy. There's a desktop version you can drag pics to or have a look at the Airdroid app

I have the same trouble with my Nokia Windows phone upload software. 4 gigs of uselessness.

You would have thought so, wouldn't you...certainly with a WINDOWS phone.

Just as I'm able to do with my digital camera...takes seconds.

I don't even use my phone cam because of all this buggering about.

(I'll try it now...just using the normal Windows pc programme that my digicam uses, and post the results).

I dont use windows 8 which is what the windows phone is based on.

The way I do things is using vista. Please dont tell me that on windows 8, the simple process of transferring files from pc to a device and visa versa has become complicated ?

It's a Windows 7 phone (though only a year old). I'm on Windows XP on the PC.

Just tried direct connection as 'new hardware'. It requests the Zune software (as approved by Nokia) that I was using before.

Did you check Graham to see if the device comes up in "my computer" still ?

Is the zune software totally uninstalled ?

No mate, I didn't check 'my computer' (actually my son arrived just as I was trying to sort it out), so I'll have another go later and check for that.

I've properly removed Zune from 'C', but I'd copied it over to another Hard-drive...'D', and was trying to point the 'found new hardware' prog over to that, but it still said it couldn't find the required (driver) file and was asking for the Zune disc. Actually there isn't a disc anyway, as you have to download the software from the internet....Nokia being too tight to include one in the box.

My next phone will be an Android. Can't even use Skype on this stupid one.

Update your Windows Phone 8 driver

On the “Updates in your basket” screen, tap or click the Download button. Tap or click the Browse button and select a convenient location, such as your Desktop or the Downloads folder, to save the file. Tap or click Continue, and then tap or click Close when downloaded.
Browse to the file you downloaded (which may be contained in a folder called “Windows Phone – Other hardware – WinUsb Device”) and then double tap or double click it.
Double tap or double click the file winusbcompat.cat. Select a location (such as the Desktop) to extract the file.
Repeat the steps under Update your Windows Phone 8 driver above, but when you reach Step K, browse to the file you just saved instead of the C:WindowsInf folder.
