    Camping get together perhaps???

    Hi all,

I understand that some parts of the UK the weather has not been great, with flooding et all...

Our receiver for TV at home is broken after that strong winds weeks ago, but I told husband not to bother getting a replacement as we won't be here long and its still works for catch up on bbc iplayer, 4od..that kind of stuff, so it can spare me the adverts.

With regards to my subject. I was wondering if anyone here likes to go on camping and perhaps get together/meetup for camping in the summer? We had a lovely summer last year that made me think twice about going home to Philippines, but well... flights were already booked then there I was stuck in Manila for 2 days because of that strong typhoon and flooding.

Last year we went to costwold and camped a few places. Since it is pretty much in the middle.. perhaps anyone might be interested? Or can anyone have suggestions?

Doc Alan have invited us a few times, but it was the long drive with a baby that put us off if not a trip that we have to go.

Used to go camping with the Boys' Brigade, for a week each summer ... many moons ago.

was to Elie, on the East Neuk of Fife, where - even in July - it was

    But then ... ... I'm a "BIG softie"!

We went camping in July last year and the sun was hot but loving the cool and refreshing breeze of the Oxfordshire countryside... the best traditional fish and chips I've ever tasted in the UK that I got my first time sunburned skin ever in my life and in this country.

Suppose it wasn't a proper camping for me though.. it needs to be in the wild areas of Scotland according to me husband. As I like to fish or hunt which most of people I know in this country including my husband and his family find odd, outlandish and barbaric.

    Hi Purple,

Might be a nice thing to do over a long weekend in the summer. I might need to convince my wife though as she is not fond of the cold! Hey i notice you are not far from us in Worthing and i am often down that way working anywhere in West Sussex. I used to do my filipino food shopping at Ronalds filipino foods shopin worthing but i think its now closed. Is there any other shop opened up down there?

Last time i went camping was in Dorset with my son who was about 11 or 12 at the time. Had a good time despite the rain and campsites have improved considerably since my youth.

Alas, Graham ... my earlier response might've already put Rohany off the notion of camping in Scotland. Nevertheless, it's still worthwhile pointing out that - in the small, neighbouring township of Anstruther (known locally as "Ainster") - just a few miles along the coastline from where the BB camped in the 1950s and 60s, there's a specialist fish 'n' chip restaurant rivalling the one she mentions in #6; indeed, during the height of summer, queues may be seen stretching the entire length of the harbour area - for the sake of sampling this local delicacy.

Maybe she could contact fellow member, Melissa (Scottish Bride) who lives there and who will gladly confirm, I'm sure.

Camping is great fun, but only if you wait to see that the weather will be nice. We'd be up for it. However, I can see a hotel get together attracting more people It doesn't have to be an expensive place...

Hi lords, feel free to stop by. I do my shopping at wing wah on Richmond road in Worthin. They sometimes have San Miguel, plenty of baluts and all kinds of filipino foods and snacks.

Think that camping is best in the summer and with children. Last year's summer was great.

Ah ... the infamous Scottish "midges", Graham ... significantly there're "clouds" of the wee blighters floating about on balmy evenings around dusk!

Thank you purple for inviting the members here in the forum for a camping get together. But I will pass on this one. I'm not a fan of camping. I'm too fussy when it comes to places without a private toilet & shower/bath. Keith also prefers staying in a hotel rather than a camper van. We also both need to have internet whenever we go and have a holiday (work will always be tagging along no matter what).
