This capsule-only machine is simple and quick to use and makes almost perfect coffee. It is available with or without a stand-alone aeroccino milk frothing accessory, which works a treat for fabulous cappuccinos, and it comes with 16 capsules.

    2. Philips Saeco Poemia Manual Expresso Machine

It’s no mean feat finding a machine that makes a decent cup of expresso in this price range, but this one does the job surprisingly well, as well as enabling coffee enthusiasts to use traditional preparation methods. The patented pressurised filter produces a long-lasting crema too.

If you wake up most mornings fancying a Starbucks, your ears will doubtless prick up when you hear that they make a range of coffee machines for home use, including this brand new one that is both elegant and which comes which boasts an extra-fast heat up time and super-strong pressure system.

    £149, selfridges.com

    5. Morphy Richards 47586

    £89.99, coopelectricalshop.co.uk

It’s capsule only, which makes it easy to use, and there’s an updated steam pipe for the best ever frothed milk.

    7. KRUPS XP5620

Brand new for this year, this sophisticated looking machine has a 15 bar pump pressure and patented tamping system, which basically combines to mean great (and hot) coffee every time.
