For a few days we stayed at a rather nice hotel in Malate, but for our meals went down the street to the local friendly little canteen.

Breakfast...50 pesos, plus coffee...10 pesos. (Exactly the same coffee priced at 60 pesos a cup at the hotel).

Sounds like you got a bargain at the café. Mind you - that wouldn't be the ubiquitous instant Nescafe sachets with powdered milk, would it?

Yes, exactly the same as at the hotel.

I'm fine with it, but next time I'll take my travel kettle so I can get one before leaving the room, made to suit my taste.
