The River Thames has flooded Staines... I am only 3 miles from there! Quite a few friends live in Staines and the pictures they have been posting on facebook are unbelievable.... Hope it doesn't reach me.... But I hope everyone I know stays safe.

Been watching the news this morning, there is great concern about the areas surrounding the Thames today due to more rain. It has been talked about for many years the problems arising due to global warming and the effect of sea levels rising, but I think the recent rains have become quite a shock by accelerating the problem. The Thames barrier is doing it's job very well regarding the sea levels, but mother nature has yet again taken everyone by surprise. Good luck to all those in flooded areas in the UK, lets hope for a change in the weather very soon!

thats why I bought a house on a slight hill ,I could,nt imagine the heartache of ones house being ruined by water flooding in and the mess that has to be cleaned up.

Which is exactly what happened to people living near me, they built the Jubilee river which effectively was a flood relief scheme All it's done is taken the flood risk away from my area on the Thames and flooded Datchet, Wraysbury and Staines

Exactly. Water will simply find its own level and the easiest route.

If you're going to be daft enough to build houses on a flood plain and tarmac over every bit of water-absorbing soil in sight...build em on stilts !
