Can't answer that Brian, but when I adopted my ex wife's daughter who was six years old at the time and had arrived in the UK when she was five she became a British citizen!

Only 1 year from planning to adopt to the actual adoption and she was already in the UK when the procedure started, it consisted of about three visits by social workers followed by the visit to the chamber of the judge who then dealt with a few questions, social workers report and the signing of a couple of official documents. The meeting with the judge only took about 15 mins then everything was done and dusted as they say!

Brian, it's a complex issue whilst you are living in the Philippines I'm afraid.
I'm not a lawyer, so not updated on this, but my understanding is adoption of your gf's daughter will not qualify her for British Citizenship because you need to be living in the UK and the adoption order needs to made by a British Court.
Even legal adoption under Philippine law will not be recognised by UK since Philippines is not signatory to the Hague Convention.

I made a phone call today about adopting my stepdaughter. They said there may be a issue because of her immigration status.
Also Andy at the time of the adoption 1991 there was no British citizenship procedure my wife automatically became British after I think three years of being married to me, we married here in UK Jan 1990 and after three years she applied for her British passport. I will point out that at the time of adoption even though my ex was the legal mother of my stepdaughter we both had to adopt her!
we rang our local council, they told us to write a letter so we did it. it's been a month now still no response from them.

When I rang the council they filled my details in on the form while I was on the phone. The one I spoke to said she would contact her manager to see if there was a issue because of my stepdaughters immigration status. The court fees are £160. But that is not a problem.
Like I said Michael, that was a long time ago. The times - and rules - I reckon have changed. Hi.. Got kids for my relationship and both filipino citizen and of them the father is unknown in birth certificate and one of them the father signed in Birth certificate. What's the process for this? Do I need to ask the father to sign any documents? I'm planning to bring them over here. I'm under spouse visa at the moment.. Any advice is very much appreciated..
