Question Minimum years in the uk before applying for naturalisation.

    Hi everyone,

I just got something in my mind that I want to clarify. It may be too early to ask this question but it's better to be well prepared before than panicking at the end of the day.

I arrived here in the UK on the 23rd of December 2011 using my fiancé visa...and this coming December is my 3rd year here in the UK, does that mean I can apply for my naturalisation anytime after the 23rd of December this year? Or next year?.. I will be applying for my ILR on July this year.. Am I allowed to apply for naturalisation even if I only got the ILR for a few months?

Yes, April. Although time spent in the UK as a fiancee doesn't count towards Indefinite Leave to Remain, it DOES for Citizenship.

So ... the fact that you'll have been 3 years here come *December 23rd means you will be eligible to apply for naturalisation from *that date onwards ... even though you've only had ILR for a few months.

I hope this answers your question.
