Working tax credits, married and living apart

Just a quick question before I call the tax credit helpline.

    Here is my situation :

I got married recently and right now my wife is in the Philippines.

I'm under the minimum £18,600 threshold.

I'm self employed and claiming working tax credit as a single person.

So how does the tax credit work in my case? Obviously I need to tell them that I have got married but would that affect the money I'm getting right now? Even if we are living apart?

I'm supporting her and not the other way round

    Cheers

I can't see a problem as ur wife is actually in the Phils and not a resident of the UK...

    Hi RicIre,
I think you'll find you should be making a single tax credit claim.
Your partner lives outside the UK/EEA and you don't have children.

Would be great to learn the feedback from HMRC. Sometimes their call handlers get it wrong.

    Ok thanks.

That make sense now. Due to new work and busy schedule I didn't get a chance to call them, so hopefully I'll get that done soon.

    Cheers
