    Step by step

Just wondering if there is a post here for a timeline/step by step guide on what to do / what to get --- from arriving to the UK on a fiance visa until the ultimate citizenship. Thanks!

I don't think someone has posted this yet. It'll be quite a long post as there are plenty of information if you will compile it in one post/thread.

    Hi rani,

Here's a starting idea for you:-
In principle and limited to immigration issues only:-

    1. Arrive to UK on Fiancee visa
    2. Get married
    3. Immediately apply for FLR(M) (Further Leave to Remain as spouse for initial 30 months)
    4. One month before FLR(M) expiry submit application for 2nd period of FLR(M) of 30 months
    5. One before FLR(M) expiry submit application for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain)

There will be a number of supporting and evidential documents to supply at each stage.
ILR application will require a pass for English Language Test at B1 and also a pass for Life in UK Test. These will require significant time and effort
so good advance planning will help. I'd suggest you secure these documents asap after arriving to UK as you'll have more time available to study. But as always, timing is a personal choice.

There are plenty of forum threads full of ideas and suggestions on important things to do as a new arrival as well as after the granting of FLR(M) (when you'll be allowed to secure employment).

Also please do download the application forms for FLR(M) and ILR in order to fully understand the requirements for each.

If you’re married to a British citizen, you can apply for citizenship if:-

    - You have ILR
    - lived in the UK for at least the 3 years before your application is received (make sure you were physically here on that exact date)
(note: time in UK as holder of Fiancee Visa will count for Citizenship but not count for ILR)
    - spent no more than 270 days outside the UK in those 3 years
    - spent no more than 90 days outside the UK in the last 12 months
    - not broken any immigration laws while in the UK

Hopefully it's a start for your timeline

    Good luck

Great news Rani, and I also wish you luck

I was born in Glasgow, then studied and worked there - happy memories It's Scotland's largest city, the people are friendly, and there's easy access to beautiful scenery - islands, lochs and mountains. You will also be there in time for the Commonwealth Games ( http://www.glasgow2014.com/ ) !
