Execution of Clayton Lockett is horribly botched in Oklahoma

Killer dies of heart attack after FORTY MINUTES writhing in agony and sitting up to say 'something's wrong' when experimental drug execution causes his veins to explode

They should have videoed it, to be played to all budding murderers.

Brill - he suffered as his victim did

I would have let him have had his last meal and smothered it in live maggots

Before anyone says he deserved a humane death don't forget what he did, "Clayton Lockett, 38, who was sentenced to death for shooting a 19-year-old woman and then watching his friends bury her alive"

    Nice man

Another case that illustrates why the death penalty has no place in a civilised country.

Most people do not know that they will be a murderer until the have killed someone. Most cases are not premeditated.

This cock-up was due to the company that supplied the drugs originally withdrawing supplies, so the state made up a concoction of wolf pee, eye of newt, and a dribble of George Bush slobber. Obviously it failed.... they forgot the toads foot

I don't have sympathy for him. He appears to be a vile piece of work and there's no doubt that he should spend the rest of his life behind bars reflecting on what he has done.

But the death penalty is wrong in a modern and civilised society. Here's the top 10 countries that executed the most people in recent years.

    CHINA
    IRAN
    SAUDI ARABIA
    IRAQ
    UNITED STATES
    PAKISTAN
    YEMEN
    KOREA (NORTH)
    VIETNAM
    LIBYA

With one or two exceptions, these are failed states and despicable countries. I'm proud of the UK's stance on capital punishment, and that of the majority of Europe.

I agree with you about those countries, but I do agree with Capital punishment for 100% proven crimes.

They lose their right to life when they take others lives in my opinion.

We can agree to disagree Jamesey

20 feet of manila rope and a long drop is a better way to deal with vermin like Lockett

What is the point in paying an absolute fortune to keep these excuses for humanity alive, when the planet is already vastly overpopulated ?

I would rather pay for a tree to be replaced in the Amazon rain forest.

Some anti death sentence woman on CNN this morning said 'ohh, he should have spent the rest of his life in jail where he cannot hurt anyone' Yeah right!!! I am sure as a murderer he would be given a high status in the convict hierarchy where he could inflict punishment to other inmates. Better he went in that way and cut the cost.

I agree but why cant they just do what the Chinese do...Shoot the sod// Job done.
I`m not really interested to hear about the details of his death whilst eating my breakfast..
It may give others a good appetite...Just not me.
    Dead is dead.
I`m sure some would like to kill him twice or three times for his crime.
    Not possible.

I used to like the way the Chinese used to have 'em cuffed, in the back of a pick up and drive them round the football stadium at half time. They'd have a placard hanging from their necks detailing their crimes. They'd drive out to the car park and slot them.

    Good deterrent

By that Ded, I can only assume you have complete confidence in the Chinese justice system??
    Me?? I have my doubts..
I reckon some of those guys with the tag on their necks, paraded and shot in the head were most probably innocent...The odd one or two, guilty.. who knows?

You have a point there Fred but as a method of execution I think it had a lot going for it

I used to be against the death penalty in the UK because of those few poor .......s proven innocent after being hanged.. ONE innocent execution is too much for me to bear..

I think I may be changing my opinion now since the introduction and use of DNA evidence etc..

So agreed...100% sure conviction...a cheap bullet in the back of the head..Job done. No drama and tell me well after breakfast,.

Well, I don't have any time at all for footy hooligans...but that does seem pretty harsh.

Surely the best way is to do them by the batch, I have come up with a money saving option, which is painfree.

Have an area of waste land near prison, chain 3 or 4 together, toss a live hand grenade into middle. BOOM job done plus nice crater already made to bury what's left

Yes for 100% proven crimes like the Lee Rigby killers, Ian Huntley etc.

Why should they live, it costs a fortune for us to keep them and being High priority inmates they get privileges.

Excellent idea. Permission to lob the grenade in Captain Mainwaring!

Aye, well ... ... no lesser a personage than Maggie Thatcher herself, was a keen exponent of the death penalty, Michael.

Alas ... Labour, the Limp Dems and the majority of her spineless backbenchers voted AGAINST its restoration.
