Yes, I'm off to work now - it's going to be tough but it does work. Maybe my results will encourage you when I check my weight next Monday.
Starving already
You don't need to diet, all that needs to be done is to burn more calories than you put in. It is that simple. The best exercise is walking, so do 15-30 mins a day, brisk pace, preferably up a hill.
Best incentive is to take a dog for a walk, although I think all of the Kardashians are taken

I've been doing it for some time now (for maintenance) and it works! I find that it's better to do the diet days when at work, because I don't think about food when I'm working. It saved me a lot of money too. I do it Mondays and Wednesdays. I Just have a black coffee in the morning, a banana at 10, an apple and actimel at 1, then just a cup a soup for dinner (plus One or two cups of tea in between). Have to admit though, I've been doing it for some time now, that I become more lenient with myself!
Mind you, I don't advise you do this on its own. When I'm not on the diet days, I run (even just on the treadmill).
Hard to start with, but you'll get used to it eventually. Good luck!
What does this 5/2 involve Les?
If you want your dreams to come true ...... first you have to wake up
Doing exercise on my normal days will help too.
I have a friend from Texas who has been living in Dumaguete the last 5 years and he keeps himself really fit by fasting 3 days a week, just drinks liquids but I think a couple of those drinks are a bit stronger than water!
Fasting is not good for you, as your body has major ups and downs in the number of vitamins, minerals ad nutrients it needs.
Did you know that you can eat as much plain popcorn as you want?

There are numerous reports that it is good for you, as it helps to cleanse the body of toxins etc - flushes it clean so to speak.
This diet is proven and I'm sure I will confirm that
I have got past the starving stage - only 6 hours till my burger
You cant cleanse the body of toxins by fasting, or any other wonder products, that is a myth. Your body produces its own free radicals on a constant basis, it is a natural process, and only stops producing toxins when you are dead.... which is an excellent diet

How ironic that I spend hours preparing a separate thread on obesity ( " Fat Chance " ), based on experience as a doctor, backed up by published evidence, only for a separate thread to appear, advocating a fad diet which is " proved to work " .
Such diets may work for a minority. The massive problem of obesity in UK, Philippines, and many other countries of the world can’t be solved in this way .
For the overwhelming majority, adequate exercise and a sensible diet – for life - would help reduce the problems of an unaffordable epidemic of obesity.
Choosing what one eats and how much exercise to take are lifestyle choices. They certainly have major consequences for individual health, and cost to the community.
At least my conscience is clear - ALL my posts are carefully prepared for the benefit of those who wish to read them .
I wish you luck, Les. " 5 : 2 " may work for you, as you say it has for your sister .
Sorry Doc did not want to in any way argue about your excellent helpful post.
Sometimes threads get started after we have covered them -I have read a lot about this diet and it does seem to work.
Anyway, had my dinner under 600 cals after all day with nothing but water.
Was easier than I expected.
Lets see in a week's time what I have lost!
I don't do diet ...drink plenty of water..SIP of sugary drinks ie..Pepsi once a week .. Same with chocolate...
Last but not least, more fruits and vegetables...and of course...meat but in moderation So my weight since I came here ranged to 6.7 stone...or 43 kilos - maybe 45 if am full. I am only 5 feet in height by the way.
A place for everything, everything in its place.
I can eat normally today
So weighed myself this morning - 2 pounds gone!
Today I can eat normally - but not as hungry as usual and not snacked at all. Just had sandwich and having dinner tonight.
No matter what, I feel energised and it's focused me on losing weight - so, so far, so good!
By some coincidence I watched an old Horizon programme last night. It was called 'Eat, Fast and Live Longer' with Dr. Michael J. Mosley.
I found it really interesting.
More importantly for me, the scientific basis and research convinced me.
The way I understood this was that weight loss was almost a by-product of the major benefits of improvements in body-chemistry.
Well worth a watch IMO (sorry about the advertising at start up.....can't get rid of it)
NiceBest incentive is to take a dog for a walk, although I think all of the Kardashians are taken
I just eat whatever Ems puts in front of me, and I am a happy, fatty chappy
Don't have a dogBest incentive is to take a dog for a walk
Seriously, I think the best way is to burn the cals up with vigorous exercise as in my excercise bike.
I just need to get back into it, I used to sometimes do it for 90 mins and burn off 1000 cal
This 5/2 diet though is good I reckon, because for 2 days I'm forgoing about 2000 per day so 4000 cals less which is the same as doing my exorcise bike for an hour a day for 7 days.
Anyway I will keep you informed of weight loss and how I feel-I'm doing the 2nd day today.
All I will have is liver and onions with a small amount of mash tonight.
I think if we all go back to eating basic foods then we will all be healthy and will live to be 100!!
but
who wants to live a hundred in this world???....not ME !!
No diet for me just...Good Lovin'....Eat...Work....Sleep...Smile and keep going!!!
''Don't be serious..Be Sincere''
I'm vain - I don't want my England shirt making me look like I'm pregnant when the world cup starts
Good luck with the diet Les, I jog 3 x miles 3 x times per week, it does allow me to eat and drink most things in moderation, but its boring.....
Update -Weighed myself this morning (Thursday) and lost 4 lbs
Eaten normally today - well, maybe a bit extra - but on my 'Fast' days it's not that hard and already I'm feeling more energised.
Be interesting another week from now
