    Passport for baby

Hi can anyone clarify the passport situation. Our baby Pearl was born in April 2014 in the Philippines.

We want to apply for a British Passport. I would like to know the following:

Is she a British Citizen when she is born or after she gets a passport?

Who applies for the passport my wife who is in the Philippines or me who is back in the UK working?

Also does she need a passport to come and visit me in the UK?

Your daughter Pearl is automatically a British Citizen 'by descent'. This 'by descent' category is for children born abroad to a British citizen.
She does not need to acquire British Citizenship any other way.
Sometimes it may be needed to provide detailed levels of proof of parentage but that's it.
Only British citizens are eligible for a British Passport...means passport follows citizenship.

Doesn't matter. The application is made online.
Take a look here at the webpage called Get a passport for your child

Also look here - Overseas British passport applications

Do note that it's not mandatory to register your child with the Embassy. That will simply be an unnecessary additional time delay and cost.

    Yes.
The passport is the official travel document for all international travel.Everybody needs a passport for international travel.

I'd suggest searching the forum threads for the additional procedures required when children are travelling from Philippines.
Just be aware that your wife would need a Visa to visit UK and that might present problems especially if she will travel with the child and cannot demonstrate non-immigration intention.

Probably better all round if you visit Philippines.
