Me too.

As a nurse I have had to help move 30 stone plus patients. We now have specialist gantry hoists and specialist beds to cope with bariatric patients.

I have seen the prevalence of these patients increase. I can understand with some disease processes that people get overweight but this is extreme and it puts a huge strain on the staff that care for them. Many go off sick with injuries like strained backs.

They need more care input taking away 3 or 4 staff members to help so leaving the rest of the ward short.

And family members bring them in huge takeaways that they eat as well as the hospital food.

Also if a patient is bariatric and requires specialist equipment, we have to close the bed space next to them so we lose a bed for someone else who needs it.
