Fracking licences to be granted by government

The government has opened the bidding process for new licences to extract shale gas, using the controversial fracking process.

Lets get a fracking move on so we aren't held to ransom by the muslim arabs & russians, cheaper gas of course is a pipe dream

    Fracking great idea.

We need more 'in-house' energy resources.

They only provide small amount so we will need more in the future. One day there will be no oil or gas left.

I would imagine long term Solar power and Ocean power will be the way of the future but still a lot to be done yet!

They don't have enough oomph really tho and as much as the nuclear option is undesirable it will no doubt have to be relied upon more and more.

It's a joke that we are buying French nuclear generated electricity because we don't have enough nuke stations of our own

Well that bore of an Energy Minister reckons we will potentially get cheaper energy. (potentially).

I don't think we will ever get cheaper - we just need another source.

In an ideal world wave and wind power would be great - but unfortunately we don't live in that world - so until then it's fracking for me.....

If coal mining had just been discovered people would be up in arms saying it would ruin the landscape and cause earthquakes

Andy, can you remind us who was the A Hole Energy & Climate Change Minister responsible for ramping up energy prices with green and carbon taxes ?

It was the Tories who let the prices soar. Spineless. Don't worry, our Caroline will put it right next year. As for the fracking I wonder how many Tory MPs have got their fingers in the pie?

Would that be Caroline - Expenses Cheat ?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...-expenses.html

And the same Caroline who dismisses green taxes as only £120 per year

Caroline Flint claimed in her response to Ed Davey’s energy statement that green taxes and levies “only” costs households £120 a year. Only £120?

Easy for someone to afford on MP’s salary, with a Minister’s pension and expenses to bung bills on, but talk about the mask slipping…

    Only £120?

    http://www.networkedblogs.com/QBTva

And the same Caroline who employs her husband on £39k pa of taxpayers money

A Labour trough feeder of the highest order - pass the puke bucket

You still haven't enlightened us as to the identity of that Energy Minister Andy

    Flint may be a thick-skinned bint ...

.................................. ... but one thing she clearly cannot claim [is] being a skint Flint!

    That's not really accurate Les.

Germany produce nearly 30% of their power via Solar and renewable energy and hold the world record at about 25 giga watts (OOMPH!!)..

They seem on target to completely phase out nuclear power by 2022 whilst the UK look at fracking!!

    Who won the war again?

During the first six months of 2014, almost 31% of German electric power came from renewable sources, mainly wind, biogas and solar; this was more than came from brown coal

The worrying thing about Nuclear energy is the disposing of the waste and it's long term effects

Can't see how they will ever get near 100% which is what they will need one day.As they currently import fuel from Russia-that could go tits up too.Once Fracking is done with the amount of wind turbines needed to supply the country would be ridiculous-they give a poor return and also same with Solar. If it aint windy and sunny we would be shafted. Nuclear makes sense.

(With Energy Efficiency Surveyor for 37 yrs hat on).

There would be no need for ANY extra power-generation if individuals and industry weren't so damned wasteful !

Great post Fred! I was just reading all the comments on this thread and about to research the Germans having remembered their commitment to renewable sources but gladly you beat me to it!

Personally I am not a fan of Nuclear or Fracking.

I'm not a fan but think a combination of all listed will be needed.

, Michael ... 's what worries me too ... many's the (previously unspoilt) remote Scottish beauty spot that has been contaminated by the reckless dumping of nuclear waste.

Who was the Immigration Minister that hired an illegal? We can go on and on about the past Ded. You are fighting a good campaign on behalf of the Tories. It's a pity they are going to lose . After all, they didn't win the last election outright and more people will vote this time. Firemen, police, teachers, who have lost out on pensions. NHS workers and those hit by the bedroom tax. Oh, and then there are the disabled that this government have punished. I think that will do for starters.

And do you think pensioners are better off? I doubt it.

Back on the subject of fracking, you will find there are a lot of people against that too.

Andy Topic is Energy - you are correct in post 16 talking about the Shadow Minister Caroline but as usual here you then fail to respond to the points I made (about your 16) and just start the usual anti-Tory rant. So please, please let's hear about the credibility of the trough feeding Shadow Minister and for the third time let's have the name of the inadequate who imposed these green and carbon taxes in the first place
