Moving or Living in the United Kingdom

These are the things that maybe some of us surely gonna miss when finally settled to the United Kingdom. Or you`ve been missing since you left our beloved country.

1. Of course your family. If you have brothers here that really spoiled you and always make you laugh, you parents whose been so caring and supportive to you.
2. Your relatives and close friends.
3. Your ancestral house, where you all grown up together.
4.Your old bed even though the mattress is not as soft as clouds.
5. Your bedroom that you`ve spent money , time and effort to make it beautiful.
6. Your dog , your cat and even the cockroaches if theres any. Or perhaps the lizard or geko on the wall or ceilings.
7. Your neighbor who likes to play their karaokes so loud that you can not even hear what`s the person talking about when you talk on the telephone.
8. The balut vendor who shout out loud in the middle of the night.
9. The newsboy every Sunday that delivers you the Manila Bulettin
10. The Smartload sari sari store where you used to go to top up your cellphone.
12. Your favorite Filipino foods that your Mum cooks for you.
13. Your favorite summer foods such as Halo Halo or your favorite Christmas deli such as Bibingka or Rice cake and puto bum bong
14. The caroling when its Christmas time and simbang gabi or midnight mass for catholic one
15. The noisy and speedy jeepneys
16. The smoke belching tricyles
17. The king of the road, Metro Buses.
18. Your favorite telesine or gag show like, Bubble Gang and Eat Bulaga.
And so on….. you may add more if you want.

Theres nothing better to wake up in the morning with your husband or sweetheart lying next to you especially when its cold. Oh Im missing my sweetheart na very much...

Bridget excellent thought provoking post, listen are you trying to depress us girl..cos I am thinking the same as you.

here is my list.


1. My maids laying my boxers and trousers and shirt on the bed in the morning.

2. "Sir Good morning, Tea or Coffee" ?

3. Breakfast in the Gazebo laid on by the maids.

4. My driver bringing me the Manila Bulletin at 8am.

5. A Mango shake placed at the occasional table after breakfast.

6. Sitting reading the political commentary waiting for Madam to put on her face to go downtown.

7. Going to SM City for lunch at Shakeys or Bobs.

8. Mojo's at Shakeys.

9 Extra Mojo's at Shakeys.


10. Internet browsing in the afternoon, while Madam goes around, leaving hubby to take coffee at Bo's coffee house or Bobs Cafe.

11. Meeting up with Brit expats at Foreigners bar for Premiership football on Star sports whilst enjoying a few San Miguels, and taking the p.....out of everything that doesnt work in the Phils.

12. Eating out at the Thai Buffet downtown area, for P190.00 a head.

13. Saturday Mornings with my barkada at the firing ranges, shooting and a few soft drinks and snacks.

14. Sleeping off my hangover after going out with my barkada to xxxx bar downtown and then running the gauntlet of my wife's reklamo..at the amount of time spent drinking.

15. Sitting out watching the sun go down at the other side of the world, sipping on a ice cold San Miguel and putting the world to rights with my Filipino freinds.

16. Sleeping in bed with nobody outside having a fight or falling over in the street, or sound of police or ambulance sirens.

17. Having a foot massage and foot spa whilst I am reading the paper.

18. Having a cousin come over and give me a full body massage, and a head hot oil massage.

19. Sending my driver down to Jollibee for a family meal of burgers fries, and ice creams for everyone at the house.

20. Finally - Snuggling up to a sweet smelling babe who just came out of the shower fresh wearing Narcisso Rodriguez...aahhhhhhhhhhhhh


Hey ! who could leave all this....and you want to come to UK ? huh ?

Everyone has fond memories of home, even though for some filipinos the memories include hunger, disease, and poverty. Despite all of those, Mae is permanently homesick in Pampanga - she hasn't seen her parents or brothers and sisters for over 2 years. Her memories of home are overwhelmingly happy.

I hope when she is in the UK she will be safer, and even have more chances to phone home and go home!

That is sad to hear that she hasn`t seen her family for 2 years, but that happens to most of filipinos abroad, My childhood friend hasn`t seen her mother for 10 years who used to work in Canada. But thanks to the technology that it is very easy now to get in touch with your love ones from abroad. I do believe that most of the filipinos whose been living abroad now, maybe 2, 3, 5, or 10 years more whose been settled and already got used to her/his life there, the homesickness is still there from time to time especially when its Christmas season.

It can happen sad to say, for those mother who left their children to work abroad. It is not easy living abroad away from your own children. It is sad, but thats the reality, thousands of Filipino mothers working abroad.

what i will never miss in UK are:
commuters throwing newspapers inside the train
tube service mostly under maintenance
all about tube


but i dont give a heck to:
my maids
my drivers
my dogs
my internet
my expat friends etc....

Although it was a long time ago, during my two years in Thailand I was never homesick.

There are several places I would be quite happy to live in - including, of course, anywhere in Thailand, anywhere in France, most places in the UK. My first love is London, but I am looking forward to falling in love with the Philippines too.

But I would never like to be far from my son, and being away from him would be unbearable. Maybe home is where my son is?
