Limited ILR?

Hi everyone, I just want to clarify what I heard from one of my Filipina friends about ILR. She told me that ILR has only 10 years and need to apply for naturalization before the end of ten years. Has the law changed recently regarding this matter? I am currently holding ILR,and this info makes me a bit worried.Thank you. Good day

There's no obligation on anyone holding ILR to seek Naturalisation.
Holders of ILR are allowed to stay as settled without any time limit on their stay.

However, if the holder remains outside of UK for 2 or more years then the ILR is no longer valid

Hi Pat, that's the same with my friend who applied ILR but there is expiration date which last only 10 yrs of his ILR visa. He said after 10 yrs it needs to renew. REALLY WEIRD because the word 'indefinite' doesn't sound right anymore. I think if your ILR doesn't have any expiration date then you are fine.

There are technical legal reasons for renewal requirements. Same as say driving licence, passport and the BRP photo card.
In principle the ILR 'visa' is indefinite and mostly 'upgraded' to citizenship before renewal is needed. However since naturalisation/citizenship is not mandatory there's a need to renew.

Anyone with a BRP will notice an expiry date. Just means update details, photo and renew. Simples

Hello Terpe, just have time getting online again, thank you so much for your reply. I feel ok now.It is what I thought before until I got informed about expiration .My passport still expired and not able to apply naturalization. We are still thinking to apply naturalization with my expired passport but not sure yet.Thats make us really puzzled at the moment,another thing is the ESOL, I read somewhere that it is being removed from the accepted list.Is it true?....or is it still valid?

Hi Joy, thanks for your response. Yes, it really made worry. My ILR has no expiration date so I feel ok now.
