It's been going on for years and I, like most other people, do not understand why it has not been sorted.
We are too soft on illegals when they get here. Unbelievable for an island that we can't secure our borders, and the entry point to Europe through Italy.
They should turn the boats back to Africa but they are not that worried as they know that most of the illegals are transiting through Italy.
France is whinging but what do they want us to do, let them all in, they should take care of the problem as these people must spend weeks travelling through France to get to the ports

The French can't kick them out, because they destroy their documents and then refuse to say where they are from.
Make no mistake this is OUR problem for attracting them. Well, when I say "our" problem, it isn't really because the huge vast majority want our benefits and asylum system tightening up, but the politicians, lawyers and general Guardian-reading type don't - and they are the ones who control power.
Yes that is the reason they come here - I don't know why we can't just rush through a bill to change it all: Simply that you get no benefits unless you have applied for a visa, there is a job for you etc etc. Have a couple of big screens at Calais showing how futile the journey would now be and that it is not the pot of gold they think it is.
Deal with any who do land like the Aussies, subsistence diet in poorly equipped detention camp on some remote Scottish island guarded by bruisers

Wouldn't be like Alcatraz Arthur I'm sympathetic to the environment - they'll be in tents surrounded by razor wire and attack dog runs. The guards would be equipped with baseball bats and cattle prods
