I'm feeling grouchy today so have to take the view that taking life-impacting decisions based solely on the advice of a call centre operative is foolhardy at the least.

My workmate just got married here to an American lady. She was due to come here for three weeks with the wedding taking place a couple of days after she arrived.
When she arrived she got held by immigration for 8 hours and told she wasn't allowed entry as she didn't have the right visa (although my workmate insists they followed the advice given on the UKBA website) Eventually they allowed her entry for one week only. As far as I know the wedding went ahead and she did go back after the first week. I have a feeling he may have gone with her to the US for a few weeks as he hasn't been back to work and somebody has been covering his shifts.
