Another World Record for the Philippines

Being the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, you'd have a pretty good guess what kind of feat General Santos City just pulled off!

General Santos City set a new world record for the largest fish display in 15 minutes.

As a part of the ongoing Tuna Festival, Generals (citizens of GenSan) flocked to the General Santos Fish Port Complex to witness and be part of the bid.

Within 15 minutes, GenSan folk were able to display 33.61 metric tons, or a total of 916 yellow fin tuna, compared to the previous world record of 4.5 metric tons by the Netherlands.

The feat will be formally declared by officials of the Guinness Book of World Records in the coming days.

    Onli in di pilipins!!

If fish stocks here are so great,
then why is just about any fish here more expensive per kilo than chicken!

I know of two professionally set up fishing clubs that have gone bust because they cannot catch any with rod and reel!

Might be something to do with the locals urinating in the sea at Alona Beach?

In theory the Philippines should have some of the best fish resources around considering its position in the middle of the 'coral triangle'.

It's also got one of the longest coastlines in the world.

Fishing with rod and line is completely different ball game.

    In theory!

Unfortunately there is little to no regulation on fishing here..
My brother in law built a 75ft long fishing banca for 600k 4 years ago..Within 2 years the business was bankrupt..Not enough fish..

Not only that, the nets are not graded and just about everything can be found on the fish market slab..Even 2 inch long reef fish for sale.

We are even starting to hear complaints from disappointed foreign reef scuba divers.

At least here in Bohol we have quite a number of sanctuaries..Thats something I suppose.
