Filipina maid ends life by slashing veins

24yrs old! What happened to her, to make her take her own life?

A 24-year-old Filipina housemaid committed a suicide by using a kitchen knife to slash the veins of her hands at her employer’s house in Kuwait.

When me and Ems first started talking together, she was thinking of applying for work there. I did not like the idea at all, and I thank God she did not apply.

I spent 5 years working in Q8, the way they treat non Europeans is disgusting, I'm surprised there are not more suicides, there were always a lot of maids who took refuge in the Embassy from their employers...

    Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

If I'd said that, I'd have been accused of racism, bigotry, whatever...by those who've never set foot in Kuwait, of course.

Poor girl! Women have no rights in Arab countries, as others have said before. The Philippines' government must put a stop to allowing these naive young ladies to apply for jobs in such places.

Michael there are so many domestic workers in the Middle East who send home much needed foreign currency and this money supports their families, I can't see the government stopping it.

Some of the workers in Spain are badly treated. All we can do is try to help ease the problem as they will not make an official complaint.

Yes ... terrible tragedy! And I notice there's *another (similar) incident been reported on the same link Joe provided; again, it also concerned a Filipina housemaid (25) in Kuwait!

    * actually happened nearly 4 years ago. Thankfully - due, it appears, to being discovered quickly - this girl's life was saved, though she'd been in a "critical" condition at the time.
