Scanning Software (Free)

Any recommendations for free simple to use software ? Reason I ask is I've just bought a new Canon multifunction (to replace an earlier one) and I find the software supplied (stupidly named "My Image Garden") tricky and frustrating to use compared with their previous offering MP Navigator EX . Canon have advised that this machine won't use MP Navigator and all they can do is send me a dedicated manual to plough through

I have always used 'Paperport'...been free with my (HP) scanners. It does the job.

I'm sure there's a free download version.

It uses one of those simple pop-up wizards when you select 'scanner'.

I use ABBYY FineReader portable.

Should be able to find it as a free download easily.
