    Securing your wifes future

    Hi guys,
Just wondering what ways there are to secure my wife's future when I retire & beyond that when I pass on. My wife isn't working & will be mummy soon so she will not contribute to any pension & I believe that the husband's pension is not transferable any more. Any tips?

    Many thanks

    John

John, for now all you can do now is save very hard for all your futures but when you are receiving your state pension and you pass on then your wife can receive a windows pension

Steve, It appears your quote reads:-

"How much bereavement allowance will I get?

The widow’s pension, awarded to widows over age 45, was replaced by the bereavement allowance in 2001.

The bereavement allowance is given to widows, widowers or surviving civil partners over age 45 until they reach state pension age. It is paid for up to 52 weeks.

One year's allowance will not go far to securing mine and Songs' widows' life after we die.

You're right, I read up on this some time ago. If I remember correctly, a small lump sum + 52 weeks bereavement allowance

I have a life insurance policy in place together with 2 private pensions that each have provision for payments of index-linked widow's pension.

If you go for life insurance I would recommend going for critical illness cover too as this will help if you have a stroke or some other debilitating illness that means you can no longer work before your pension kicks in

Well I am sure I have read it on the gov site that, if I am claiming a State Pension and I die, Ems being my wife - and over a certain age - will be able to draw from the pension. It will not be the full amount and will depend on her age. I will try to find it again. I am sure I was not dreaming this
