A new lens

Birthday and Anniversary are close together, so a double treat I think,
I have been looking for a new lens, and I think I have got it down to two.
A Tokina or Nikon lens 12-24mm, both have great write ups but both are so different in prices too, but which one should I treat myself to?

I have no idea these days on prices or performance. But I can say that Tokina we're always top top quality back in my day.
Not cheap by any means, but superb quality and performance.

Once the performance level has been met there's really no need to spend any extra money when any extra performance can only be determined under the microscope.
Just my thinking.
