Chocolate

Hi, my wife Maricris will be going back home to the Philippines for a couple of weeks. As is expected, she would like to take a few food items over with her - mainly chocolate.

Are there any restrictions as to what food items she can take with her? She only has a 20kg weight limit internal flight from Manila to Tacloban, and she is trying to cram what she can into that bag.

Unfortunately I won't be with her because of work commitments, so cant share the load.

Any tips or advice would be very welcome.

wrap chocolate up in bubble wrap to give some insulation from the heat while travelling, previously i had 3 tins chocolate cadburys ect , toblerone, and bars of chocolate all in my suitcase, they did just slightly feel the heat, but i dont think it was the cargo hold, rather i think travelling from airport to hotel,
all in all it was ok, wasnt checked by security i just took the chance, at worst i thought they might take some from me if found

My wife is also from Tacloban so I have done exactly the same journey loaded up with chocolate. No restrictions on chocolate but the only thing I would suggest is make sure it is in sealed packed, use bubble wrap to insulate it and pack in the centre of a case surrounded by clothes. All that should help insulate the chocolate and stop it melting in the heat. Separately wrapped chocolates (like Celebrations) seem to travel quite well and survive the heat. You could always put some in your hand luggage and maybe buy more chocs in duty free on arrival at Manilla.

Many thanks for the reply. Boss has been sorting her bags past few days. Was going to put the chocolate in the hand baggage just before setting off.

I put chocolate in a carrier bag, tie it up and put it in my hand luggage. It survives three hours going through the airport and the journey to Pampanga without melting.

I put all the chocolate in my fridge for a few days before leaving and it has Always arrived in Cebu fine.

My wife bought 60 x 100g Bars of Lidl Plain Chocolate yesterday £0.17 each (half price weekend offer) to go in the next BB box

I can report that Cadburys Chocolate from UK is much preferred.

Most of it here in the Philippines is marked as made in Malaysia.
Definitely not the taste I grew up with by any means at all.

I recall eating Mars & Snickers in Singapore that didn't taste like UK made - someone told me the recipe is modified so as not to melt so fast in the hot climate
