    Ukba/ukvi

    Hi there,

Sadly my relationship has broken down and I am now separated from my wife, with no chance of a reconciliation. I have been told that if I do not inform the (what was) UKBA I could get into trouble.

I've looked on the .gov website but it's really confusing. Has anyone had experience of this or does anyone know how I would go about informing them. I have an address for the old UKBA but they have now been superseded by the UKVI.

    Any help would be appreciated.

PS to save your time, please don't give me marital advice It's just the address and Dept I need.

    Include :-

    - your wife's name as indicated in her passport
    - date of birth
    - any UKVI or Home Office reference number

Nothing much will happen automatically and decisions regarding your wife's permission to stay in the UK may be influenced by many reasons.

    Hi there,

Many thanks for the information. I am aware that the UKVI will make what decisions they make, with or without me I am basically just trying to cover myself regarding any legal complications. I do not wish ill of my wife and hope they allow her to remain for the remainder of her visa (which they probably will).

Unless things have changed recently you have no legal responsibilities as such

Many folks do not report separation until either divorce proceedings are started or until the applicant requires proof of co-habitation and an associated declaration by the partner.

It's a personal decision how you wish to proceed.

Sorry to learn about the relationship breakdown and good luck for the future
