Official meaning of Racism in the Oxford dictionary, and the legally accepted meaning:
The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

What the FA is charging the Wigan manager and Balotelli with over the word 'chink', Jews being tight, and 'black men can jump' is pathetic. They are not racist in any way as they do not fit under the definition.

Over the last few weeks Les and Dedworth have published comments on here that are closer to racist than the comments above, but even those do not fit into the official definition. However, under the media and FA definition, Whelan, Balotelli, Les and Dedworth are all racists.

Actually, the text messages may be offensive if you happen to be a Jew, Chinese or Black.

That said, they were personal messages between 2 friends and were never meant to be aired in Public. Who among us hasn't received the odd message from somebody close that's a bit near the mark and could be taken as racist or sexist if seen by others. I'd say a fairly large percentage of blokes would be slightly embarrassed if the entire contents of their mobile phone was laid bare for everyone to see.

To me, it's private conversations between 2 guys that are nobody's business and they were only revealed in an act of spite. Time the FA grew a pair and tossed the file in the bin.
