For me, book months ahead if you can.
We booked our flights in August and paid £577 each, flying with Cathay. Before that, we paid £555 by booking nearly 1 year in advance. Works for me!
If you're happy with the price go with it.
I've often paid extra to get the flights and connections I want.
Price is not my deal breaker.
