    Smile Cheaper here

    Hi Guys,

As more and more of us 'chaps' visit the Paradise Islands, a thought has been occurring to me.

I have been over 3 times this year already and I have been learning about the 'necessaries' that are, in fact, cheaper to buy here rather than over there.
Would members think it useful if we created a list of things to 'put in the suitcase' thus saving money?

Let me kick off the list:-

Deodorant (a must over there lads.)

I have a few others but I shall await replies - to see if there is any interest in this thread.

Sure deodorant stick 76 g costs P280.00 while in UK 40ml costs less
Aveeno body lotion costs 9 pounds in UK and it only cost P700 here (same size)

I think electrical goods are cheaper here. stuff like lcd tvs, nokia cellphones etc..

fred - how did you get on with building materials? bathroom suites, wiring etc - that always seems cheap in B&Q.

say a nokia 1100 can be found here for maybe 19.99, in the fil it will be 1999pesos (i.e. 10% more).

an n95 (her latest addition ) was 23,000. In the UK its 189quid I think.

i think it's more than that in the UK, in fact, i know it is, i used to work for orange hehehe

BUT ... more importantly, the N95 is absolute crud! hehehe why would someone want a feces fone like that one? hehehe lol

    better to get a G600 or a K850i!

you can buy a phone here for 30 quid most likely less either 2nd hand or payg basic el cheapo.

The only times goods look cheaper a while back was there tax was less.

Also the ones sold in the uk are made normally in finland and are rated better than many in phill which are made in china. So i was told by a phone dealer.

Like baboyako says the tvs etc in phill like for like are normally more expensive or older versions or similar but slighty less specced versions.

I know the equipment my company sells is at least one two years behind the uk and other markets. The products are cheaper as they have had te manufacturing process finetuned and again made on a cheaper production line with less memory etc.

Most phills prefer nokia sony ericcson is not so well known out there we gave se's to my Wifes lill bro and sis and they like what are they they liked them and all there mates impressed but harder to find parts and get repaired in general.

The N95 with later firmware and not locked to a company is far better orange is well known for buggering about with the phone software.

Many companies i deal with now buy the phones unlocked with genric firmware and then tie up with a carrier saves a lot of hassle and normally means you get the latest firmware far earlier as the carriers have to test firmware for their versions before they will allow it and disable certain functions in some cases

i did get the impression that the only reason she wanted an n95 - was because it was the most expensive thing going in davao

If unlocked you should have no problems, but if locked to orange or vodafone etc you need to get the code for example on SE's or nokias on most recent versions. In phill they will unlock the phone but we have found its not a full unlock, for example a vodafone payg we forgot to get unlocked in te uk so in alabang they unlock it but it was able to make calls but not text messages Which means its almost usless to the avg phill.

The networks are the same its not like japan which uses a different type.

if its dual band, most are now or even better triband it will work.

Very true!, mobile phone is cheap here than in Phils. , that's my business over there. Buy fairly cheap here and sell in Phils similar price in the market.
