I just watched it. Shame on this government! We all know in this forum how unfair this income requirement is. Sadly, most British citizens think it's right because it's either they're not in the same situation or they don't know their own laws with regards to immigration. I do hope this video will be shared and spread widely.

Immigration controls is about keeping people out not helping them to come here
They look for any small reason to refuse people

The home office (and UKVI) has a culture of mistrust and disbelief.

    Bit like HMRC IMHO

if you think the financial requirement is unfair, wait til the Tories or UKIP bring back the 'primary purpose ' rule, at least with the financial requirement you know what you need to be earning

"primary purpose rule" which the labour party scrapped, ukip want to bring back....

Ukip will reinstate the 'primary purpose rule' for bringing foreign spouses and children to the UK. What was the rule? Well, as the BBC reporter back in 1997 when it was abolished by Labour, it required foreign nationals married to British citizens "to prove that the primary purpose of their marriage was not to obtain British residency". If those wishing to take up residency in the UK could not prove this to the satisfaction of immigration officers, they were denied entry in the UK. The change in the law was designed to place the burden of proof on immigration officials rather than those applying for residency.

At the time the Home Secretary Jack Straw described it "arbitrary, unfair and ineffective" and said that the rule had "penalised genuine cases, divided families and unnecessarily increased the administrative burden on the immigration system". Ukip want to bring it back.

I've no objection to fees being charged for ILR, Citizenship etc my Mrs had to pay them. I just hope more treasonous grubs and criminals are stripped of citizenship and deported to wherever they came from.

Not only was Labour responsible for doubling ILR they introduced charging for it in 2003 (Blunkett)

when the Tories came to power it was £840, can you please tell me what it is now dedworth ?

and dont forget the Tories have made those who came on a settlement wait 5 yrs before they can apply for ilr, meaning they now need to apply for FLR(M) at £650

These are roughly the costs that one immigrant would be spending in 5/6 years of their immigration journey. Take note, it will increase every year.

    Fiance(e) and Spouse Visa £956
FLR(M) or extension (x2 for the ones who arrived as fiancees) £649
    ILR £1,500
    Naturalisation £1,005

    Extras:
    BRP (post office cost) £19.20
    PEO application £400

On top of that, the sponsor must be earning £18,600.

That's hypocritical Joe .......... your gripe should be with your beloved Labour party who introduced it in the first place

    Oh yeah!

That will be an extra £1,200 I think before they can get the ILR.

We are even postponing the application of my Naturalisation because that £1,005 would rather be spent on our next trip to the Philippines (hopefully by January). Good thing I'm not in a hurry to become a citizen!

Milliband is increasing the border force by 1,000. Maybe the Tories could have done that under their 5 years in power. Not forgetting under their 5 years in power which has seen the most immigration in history.

I honestly don't think anything will change regarding the fees that have to be paid out for a Spouse Visa whatever party is in power, they will always increase annually!
