My Second Egg
Today I got my second egg from the then baby chick that wandered into our house on New Years Day.
The very first egg was delivered on Tuesday.
How exciting it that
Probably the most expensive egg I'll ever eat
When the chick first arrived it was very small probably a month old.
Means the first laying at 5 months old.
It's a very big well fed bird, but the eggs are pretty small.
Haven't eaten them yet........

One of those funny little pleasures of living in the Philippines.
A similar thing (lost chicken) happened at our house out there...but a different ending.
After a lively chase around the back yard, our dog presented it to me...slightly chewed.
i bought 12 pullets point of lay ,the first time i moved to aberdeen,if i remember rightly the first eggs were small, eventualy the eggs were normal size, they layed good for me 1 egg a day x12 even into the winter months when its cold the egg production is supposed to be less, i still got 100% lay,maybe because i had a good warm shed for them kitted out with nest boxes and perch bar over the top of the boxes,

That chicken is so tame and well behaved. Such a difference to the ones given to me from the province. They are feisty and bad mannered
By the way out of my first 6 chicks only 3 are left so far and one of those rescued from the jaws of a hungry cat.
Bloodied but now fit and healthy.
The big question is do I have the power to eat any

My grandma (and grandad) in Laguna used to have a small pen for a few chickens when we were kids and we always enjoyed watching them everytime they laid eggs! She started to have a few chicks to grow again (and then sell) recently just to take her out of boredom.

Update.
An egg every day, except for one day.
The eggs are still on the smallish size but look be getting marginally bigger.
We moved house this week which meant a new environment and new location for the nest box. Doesn't seem to have affected egg production.
The 3 native chicks grew very fast and I gave them away.
Their mother was given to a family member for eating.
This new house isn't really suitable for backyard chickens so sadly it's just one laying chicken as a pet from now on.
Do they still lay eggs even if there is no cockrell Peter?
Yes of course..
The only prime purpose of a cockerel is to fertilize the eggs.

Luckily we don't get eaten after the fertilisation
It would be a pretty small egg cup too.
That reminds me, when in Philippines we couldn't find an egg cup - no one in the shopping malls knew what an egg cup was, so we bought a little glass and used that, spot on!It would be a pretty small egg cup too.
