• 1953 marked the 50th anniversary of the Philippine ( Islands ) Medical Association. Its aims were to improve the nation’s health, keep doctors up to date, influence medical school formation, and develop what became present day Philhealth :-
• 1955 marked the 50th anniversary of the Philippine Red Cross – originally a branch of the American Red Cross. It didn’t become independent until after the country’s Independence – in 1947 President Roxas signed the Philippine Red Cross Charter :-

• 1971 marked the centenary of Faculties of Medicine and Surgery, and of Pharmacy, University of Santo Tomas. It is one of the world’s largest Catholic universities, originally in the walled city of Intramuros, now Sampaloc. Over 40,000 students are enrolled there :-
