    I doubt it will have any effect on Binay's presidential candidacy even though he has also been forced to resign as Mayor of Makati. Poe's ability to contest the top job is also in doubt as she won't have completed the residency requirements in time.

    ... I think you're confusing father & son here; it's the latter who has been suspended (not resigned) as Mayor of Makati, albeit Binay (Sr) did - at one time - also serve in this capacity himself.

    I understand his resignation was largely due to the July 1st 2015 launch of The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) political party in the Philippines.
    Jejomar Binay launched it as a full political party for his candidacy in the upcoming 2016 presidential election.

    Well that's how it's being reported here anyway
