No such thing as gollywog being a racist term back then.

In the 60's (and the mods may want to censor this) my mum had a cat called Nigger. Not too sure how offensive tbe use of the word was back then, but remember my grandad telling me a story of how one day they had a gas man come to read the meter under the stairs... He was out at the time but my mum let him in. So when my grandad returned my mum told him that the gasman was there. At this point the cat went under the stairs... So my grandad shouts out..... NIGGER, NIGGER, get out from under the stairs. At this point tbe gas man came out and in a very deep Jamacian accent said, I'm sorry Sir, your daughter said it was ok.

Apparently he read the meter for a good few years after that and they became good friends.
