Suggesting, of course, that the oldies were/are still THE best!

Hmmm, ... I would've thought, Gone With The Wind - which got off to a good fart - ... "start" [also] during wartime, might've been included.

It does suggest that the oldies were the best.
In other words maybe Hollywood just isn't making great films anymore, films that have some social impact.

I'm a big fan of Al Pacino who made some great films IMO
The Godfather 2 being one of them and a favourite of mine.

Perhaps it also says something about the critics. Those so called experts who, it would seem, have subjective view on harking back to the past.

I'm not saying Citizen Kane wasn't a great film, just that film critics are a unique bunch
    Just my 2 centavos

Pacino..GREAT GREAT actor.. Must say though, apart from the role`s you mentioned, plus his roles in Scareface and Carlito`s way, some of his roles have gone downhill in recent times ..

I like all of the above, plus...'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' was one of the all time greats for me.

Love Pacino and I did enjoy his recent Danny Collins .
There's a few British classics that would easily make this list Zulu, Brief Encounter, Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia to name a few.
