Advice Please - UK Tourist visa application for sister-in-law

We are expecting our first baby in November this year - my wife's 5 year old daughter also lives with us in the UK.

I would like to bring over my wife's sister to help with the children, at least for the first few months. I will be totally supporting her during the visit and covering the costs of her travel.

My wife's family are not 'well-off' and her sister lives with her family (parents/siblings) in her parents' owned home.

    • Sister does not have employment
    • Has no bank account or savings
    • Is single with no children of her own.

So, I can see the problem - "compelling reason to return" :( Any suggestions as to what I can say/do/show to help convince immigration I will send her home? (Return airline ticket paid for etc?)

    Thanks

    Peter

I think you're going to be really up against it there, but no harm in trying.

Firstly, and importantly, do not mention anything about her helping your wife with the baby. It'll raise a red flag and create extra scrutiny by the caseworker.

Secondly, there's really nothing you can say regarding taking any responsibility/action for sending her home etc. It'll be completely ignored.

The caseworkers and ECO's will form their own views on the application presented based largely on the reasons for returning home outweighing those for staying beyond the visa expiry.

Return tickets do not show any intent to return home.
Without strong ties to her country it's going to be a weak application and based on what you've shared there doesn't appear to be any ties.

The cost is low and decisions get made fairly quickly.
Always worth a punt, especially when family members are involved together full sponsorship.

Many thanks for the response Terpe - even if it does only confirm my own thoughts.

As if they dont make it hard enough to get spouses here in the first place

Anyway - as you say, it's worth giving it a go and see what happens.

    thanks again

    Peter
